Women’s watches with mother-of-pearl dials

Mother-of-pearl is a natural material, and as light moves across it the colours shift. Bulova points out that the colour varies with the material itself, so each dial is a little different in colour and tone. Here you’ll find mother-of-pearl dials from Bulova, Citizen and Caravelle, in white, pink, blue, grey and red.

Bulova

The Bulova Sutton offers the most variety: 21 mm rectangles with Roman numerals, a slender 28 mm model set with 16 diamonds under a domed sapphire crystal, and a 34.5 mm automatic with an open heart that shows the balance beating through the dial, with about 42 hours of reserve. The Rubaiyat comes in a 30.5 mm round case, in white or pink, and as a 25.5 mm octagon made in a limited run of 5,000. The Bulova Super Seville Mini sets a red or white mother-of-pearl dial, with illuminated hands and markers, in a 25 mm cushion case based on Bulova’s 1970s original. For something very slim, the Marc Anthony Harmony is a two-hand rectangle about 6 mm thick, and the gold-tone Surveyor puts the dial in a 31 mm round case.

Citizen

Citizen’s mother-of-pearl watches are almost all Eco-Drive, charged by light. The L Bianca, a rectangular case at 21.5 or 32.5 mm, and the 27.7 mm L Classic set the dial under sapphire crystal in a case rated 50 metres, and the L Arcly has a blue mother-of-pearl dial at 29.8 mm. The Petite Palidoro is a slim rectangle with a pink dial. The Citizen Calendrier, at 37 mm, sets diamonds into its mother-of-pearl dial and shows the month, day, date and phase of the moon. Citizen Quartz adds a blue mother-of-pearl dial with the day and date at 26 mm.

Caravelle

Caravelle’s 18 mm tonneau dress watch sets a white mother-of-pearl dial in two-tone steel, a small piece that suits evenings and every day alike.

Questions

Will my dial match the photo exactly? Close, but not exactly. Because mother-of-pearl is natural, Bulova notes that colours vary from one dial to the next.

Can I swim with one? Check the rating. Most are rated 30 metres, for splashes only, or 50 metres, which covers swimming, as on the Citizen L models. The 32 mm Bulova Prestige is rated 100 metres.
