Citizen Star Wars watches

Citizen’s Star Wars watches are officially licensed and built like the rest of the Citizen range, most of them on Eco-Drive movements charged by light. The characters, spacecraft and symbols are worked into the dial, the case back and sometimes the strap, on chronographs, three-hand watches and a run of rectangular ana-digi models.

The chronographs

The Rebel Pilot, Darth Maul, Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 chronographs are 44mm and 45mm Eco-Drive watches that time to a fifth of a second for up to 60 minutes, with 12/24-hour time and a date, and they are water resistant to 100 metres. The Rebel Pilot CA0761-06W is a black dial on leather; Darth Maul is black ion-plated steel on a fabric strap, and R2-D2 is silver-tone on fabric.

The three-hand watches

• Death Star: a 45mm black ion-plated case with a deep black dial that frames the Death Star, with shadows of the Imperial symbol and Darth Vader, illuminated details on the dial and bezel, a red seconds hand and another view of the Death Star etched on the case back. That’s the Death Star AW1606-06W.
• Stormtrooper, and the X-Wing and TIE Fighter: 44mm and 45mm black watches on rubber or leather, with a date.
• Jedi Master Saber: 41mm in black, under sapphire crystal, on leather.
• Millennium Falcon Hyperdrive: 40mm on a steel bracelet, the most office-friendly of the range.
• Ahsoka: 40.5mm and only 7.83mm thick, with a blue dial on leather.
• C-3PO: 42mm in gold tone with the day and date, on leather.

The ana-digi models

The C-3PO, R2-D2, X-Wing and Millennium Falcon also come as 33.5mm rectangular ana-digi watches, in gold tone, steel or two-tone on a bracelet. These are quartz, with hands plus a digital display that adds a second time zone, a temperature reading in Celsius, a chronograph to a thousandth of a second that runs up to 12 hours, and a perpetual calendar. They are water resistant to 50 metres, fine for swimming.

Choosing one

Start with what they’ll actually wear: a chronograph for someone who likes a sporty watch, a slim three-hand like the Ahsoka or Jedi Master Saber for the office, an ana-digi for the gadget lover. Most of the range is 42mm to 45mm and water resistant to 100 metres; the ana-digis are smaller at 33.5mm, and the Millennium Falcon Hyperdrive is splash resistant only. Questions

Are these official Star Wars watches? Yes. They are officially licensed Citizen watches, made and warranted by Citizen like the rest of its range. Citizen’s Marvel watches follow the same idea; see our Marvel watches, or both together in licensed edition watches.

Do they need a battery? The Eco-Drive models don’t: they charge from any light. The ana-digi models are quartz and take a battery, which needs changing every few years.

Are there smaller Star Wars watches for women? The range is sized mostly for men. The smaller choices are the 33.5mm rectangular ana-digis, one of which, the Millennium Falcon, Citizen lists as unisex, and the 40mm and 40.5mm three-hands.

How do I look after the strap? Leather and fabric straps should stay dry and are easy to replace when they wear out; rubber rinses clean, and a steel bracelet handles water and sweat.
