Getting the fit right

Case diameter is the number everyone quotes, but the lug-to-lug length decides how a watch spans your wrist, and thickness decides whether it slips under a cuff. Most men wear something between about 38 and 42 mm. Our guide to finding your case size explains all three numbers.

Bracelet or strap

A new steel bracelet usually needs links taken out until it sits snugly, with about a finger’s width to spare. Any jeweller can do it, and the spare links are worth keeping. Leather makes a case look a little more compact, and a steel bracelet adds weight. Check the water rating as well: 30 metres is for splashes, 50 metres covers swimming.
