Men’s Citizen watches, sorted by what they’re for

Men’s Citizen watches cover a lot of ground: ISO-rated divers, pilot’s watches that set themselves by radio signal, Eco-Drive chronographs, Tsuyosa automatics and slim dress watches. Most run on light, so there’s no battery to change, and most are rated to 100 metres or more.

Divers and pilot’s watches

Men’s Promaster Dive models start at about 40 mm, with elapsed-time bezels and luminous hands and markers; the ISO-certified ones are rated for scuba diving. The Promaster Dive Automatic based on Citizen’s 1970s Challenge Diver comes in a 41 mm titanium case. For flying and travel, the Skyhawk A-T sets itself from atomic time signals in 43 cities and adds a second time zone, two alarms and a chronograph to a hundredth of a second. Chronographs and everyday watches

The Brycen is the bold one: 44 mm chronographs with a coloured bezel and a tachymeter on leather, or a black 44.8 mm case with racing-style pushers and a rotating 60-minute bezel. The Endeavor Chrono and Avion are other Eco-Drive chronographs, and the Nighthawk Chrono comes in grey-tone steel under sapphire. For a three-hand watch with a date, the 40 mm Corso, the 41 mm Addysen and the octagonal Odyn are all rated to 100 metres, while the 40 mm Axiom, with crystal running to the edge of the case, is a dress watch to keep dry.

On a leather strap

If you want a Citizen Eco-Drive on leather, options include the 40 mm Classic with a blue dial, the Rolan, the Brycen and Avion chronographs, the Axiom, and some Skyhawk A-T and Perpetual Chrono A-T models. Leather is dressier and makes a case look a little more compact; keep it out of the water and let it air out after a warm day. Men’s leather strap watches shows them alongside Bulova’s.

Calendars, moon phases and mechanicals

The Calendrier BU0057-54E shows the month, day, date and moon phase in a 44 mm case rated to 100 metres. The Tsuki-yomi A-T was the first moon-phase watch with atomic timekeeping, and adds world time in 24 zones in a titanium case. Questions

Which men’s Citizens are made for scuba diving? The ones marked Diver’s 200m, such as the ISO-certified Promaster divers. Other models rated to 200 metres are fine for swimming and snorkelling.

Do the atomic models set themselves everywhere? They set themselves wherever a radio time signal is received. Elsewhere they keep running as ordinary Eco-Drive watches and can be set by hand.
