Bulova Surveyor watches

Surveyor is Bulova’s line of sculpted steel: faceted cases in polished and brushed steel, all under sapphire crystal. Most are 39mm men’s automatics, with a date or with an open heart, joined by an octagonal 40.5mm Marc Anthony edition and a 22.7mm women’s quartz.

The 39mm automatics

The men’s Surveyor comes with one of two Bulova automatic movements, and the choice decides what you see on the dial.

• Calibre 8215, with a date: a clean dial and a date window, in blue, green, light blue, burgundy and brown, on a steel bracelet or a leather strap. The Surveyor 96B429 is the green dial on steel.
• Calibre 82S0, often with an open heart: about 42 hours of reserve and a seconds hand that stops when you pull the crown, so you can set it to the second. Several versions open the dial over the balance so you can watch it beat; a champagne dial on gold-tone steel keeps the dial closed.

Both wind themselves as you wear them. Leave the watch off longer than its reserve and it stops; a gentle swirl and a time setting start it again. For other self-winding watches across brands, see our men’s automatic watches.

The Marc Anthony Surveyor

The Marc Anthony Surveyor comes from Bulova’s collaboration with the singer. It is a 40.5mm octagonal case with brushed and polished surfaces, Roman numerals and an open heart, under sapphire crystal. Calibre 82S5 adds a small seconds hand, with about 42 hours of reserve, and this is the one Surveyor that is water resistant to 100 metres, fine for swimming and snorkelling. It comes in gold tone with a black dial on steel or a blue dial on rubber, and in silver tone with a green dial on steel.

The women’s Surveyor

The 22.7mm Surveyor shrinks the sculpted, faceted case to a mini size, 6.6mm thick under sapphire crystal, with three hands on quartz and the tuning fork logo on soft dial colours: green, light blue, pink and white, in silver tone, gold tone or two-tone. A 31mm model adds a mother-of-pearl dial with diamond accents.

Wear and care

Apart from the Marc Anthony edition, the Surveyor is splash resistant, the 30 metre rating in Citizen’s chart, which we follow for every brand: fine for rain and washing your hands, not for swimming. A faceted case catches the light, and it also shows fingerprints, so a soft dry cloth now and then keeps it bright.
