Citizen Corso: a dress watch you can swim in

Corso is Citizen’s Eco-Drive dress line, and it is water resistant to 100 metres, more than most dress watches. The men’s Corso is a slim 40mm on a matching bracelet; the women’s is 27mm, with a case that flows straight into its bracelet.

The men’s Corso

The 40mm Corso is 9.2mm thick, with a clean dial, luminous hands and a date, on calibre E111. Citizen makes it in gold-tone and two-tone steel with black, blue, white or champagne dials, on a bracelet with a fold-over clasp and push buttons. The two-tone versions with a black or blue dial go with almost anything; the gold-tone BM7332-53P with its champagne dial is the dressiest of the group. Citizen has also made a 42mm Corso chronograph under sapphire crystal for those who want a stopwatch on the same look. The women’s Corso

At 27mm, the women’s Corso runs its case straight into an integrated bracelet, closed by a fold-over clasp with hidden push buttons. There are two versions. One, on calibre E011, has luminous hands that make it readable in the dark and comes in gold tone or two-tone, with black among the dial colours. The other, on calibre E015, is polished steel with a light blue, lilac or pink dial, an easy everyday watch with a bit of colour. Both are about 9mm thick and water resistant to 100 metres. Two-tone sits well with both silver and gold jewellery, and there are more in our women’s two-tone watches.

A matching pair

Because the two sizes share a look, Corso makes a natural his-and-hers pair. The two-tone Corso BM7334-58E for him and the two-tone Corso EW2299-50E for her both have black dials and the same bracelet design, one at 40mm and one at 27mm.

Wear and care

The 100 metre rating means Citizen’s chart allows swimming and snorkelling, so a Corso can stay on for a holiday by the pool. Rinse it in fresh water afterwards. Because it is rated to at least 100 metres, the bracelet can be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and a little lukewarm soapy water, then rinsed and dried. The integrated bracelet is sized by removing links, which any jeweller or watchmaker can do. Our simple habits that keep a watch running well cover the rest.

Questions

Does a Corso need a battery? No. Eco-Drive charges from any light and stores it in a rechargeable cell designed to last for many years.

Is the Corso a dress watch or a sports watch? It is styled as a dress watch, with a slim case, a clean dial and a polished bracelet, but its 100 metre rating lets you wear it like a sports watch.

How heavy is it? Citizen lists the men’s 40mm at about 139 g on its bracelet and the women’s 27mm at about 77 g, so both feel solid without weighing the wrist down.
