By wrist size

• A slimmer wrist, under about 16.5 cm: the 40mm Millennium Falcon Hyperdrive on a steel bracelet, the 40.5mm Ahsoka, or one of the 33.5mm rectangular ana-digi models.
• An average wrist, 16.5 to 19 cm: the 41mm Jedi Master Saber or the 42mm C-3PO.
• A larger wrist, over 19 cm: the 44mm and 45mm chronographs and three-hands, such as the Rebel Pilot, the Stormtrooper, the Death Star, and the X-Wing and TIE Fighter.

By style

For the office, the Ahsoka is only 7.83mm thick and slips under a cuff, and the Jedi Master Saber adds sapphire crystal and a leather strap. For the weekend, the chronographs are the natural pick: the Darth Maul CA0766-02W in black ion-plated steel on a fabric strap is one of the most searched. For the man who likes gadgets, the ana-digi models add a second time zone, a thermometer and a chronograph to a thousandth of a second. If he wears gold jewellery, the gold-tone C-3PO models, analogue or ana-digi, are the natural match. Questions

Can he swim with one? Most are water resistant to 100 metres, which Citizen rates for swimming and snorkelling. The ana-digi models are rated to 50 metres, fine for swimming, and the Millennium Falcon Hyperdrive is splash resistant only.

Do they need batteries? The Eco-Drive models charge from any light and need no battery change. The rectangular ana-digis are quartz with a battery.

Which is easiest to read at a glance? The 45mm Death Star and the 45mm X-Wing and TIE Fighter have the largest dials, and the Death Star adds illuminated details on the dial and bezel. The chronographs carry 12/24-hour time, handy for anyone who thinks in a 24-hour clock.

How does he keep an Eco-Drive running? By wearing it. Everyday light keeps it charged, and a watch that spends weeks in a drawer only needs some time by a window to get going again.
