Gold-tone watches for men

Gold tone means a stainless steel case, and usually a bracelet, finished in the colour of gold. This page gathers the men’s gold-tone watches from Citizen, Bulova and Caravelle, from 6.8 mm dress watches to 44 mm automatic divers, most of them on matching bracelets.

Dress and everyday

For a shirt-and-jacket watch, Citizen’s gold-tone Eco-Drive models are the simplest to live with, since light keeps them charged. The Corso BM7332-53P is 40 mm and 9.2 mm thick with a champagne dial, and water resistant to 100 m, more than most dress watches. The Peyten and Addysen add sapphire crystals at 41 mm, and the Axiom AU1062 is 40 mm and only 7.8 mm thick. Bulova’s Classic 97D108 is thinner still at 6.8 mm, and the Super Seville 97B223 and 97B237 bring back a 1970s cushion case with the Precisionist movement inside. Automatics and sport

Gold tone works on a sports watch too. Bulova’s Marine Star Series A 98A272 and 98A273 are 44 mm automatics with a screw-down crown and a glass caseback, water resistant to 200 m; the Series B 97B168 is a 44 mm chronograph with a rotating ring for elapsed time. Citizen’s Promaster Dive BN0262-59W is a 41 mm Eco-Drive diver with a green dial, and Caravelle’s Sea Hunter returns from the archive at 39 mm, also rated 200 m. For an automatic with a dressier look, the Tsuyosa NJ0152-51X and Tsuyosa Shore NJ0232-53X pair gold tone with green dials, the Bulova Surveyor 97A182 has a faceted 39 mm case, and the Maquina 97A207 and Sutton 97A162 show their movements through skeleton dials.

Choosing a dial

Black is the most common partner for gold tone here, and the sharpest contrast. Champagne keeps the whole watch warm, on the Citizen Corso and Peyten, the Bulova Surveyor 97A182 and several Citizen quartz models. Green and blue sit in between and look less formal. If you already wear a gold ring or chain, a gold-tone watch will match it.

Sizes and straps

Most of these watches are 39 to 44 mm across. For a smaller wrist or a more vintage look, the Caravelle Traditional is 30 mm, the rectangular Bulova Quadra 97D120 is 30.7 mm and the Caravelle Vintage Classic is 32 mm. At the other end, the Bulova Maquina 98A178 is 46 mm. Most come on matching gold-tone bracelets; the Axiom AU1062-05E, the Bulova Prestige 97A206 and the Citizen Rolan BU2112 are on leather, and the Marine Star 98A272 and the Caravelle Sea Hunter 44B129 are on rubber.
